North Street, Brierley Hill - Site Area of 2.6 Hectares

Georisk assessed a complex former industrial site with varied historical uses, including glass manufacturing, brickworks, and mining activities. Site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and environmental monitoring, identified contamination and shallow mineworkings. A tailored remediation strategy was implemented, involving capping layers for contamination and grid drilling with grouting for mine stabilisation. Georisk oversaw all remedial works, ensuring compliance with NHBC and planning conditions, facilitating the site’s successful redevelopment into residential housing and apartments.

Ashmore Site, Dudley - Site Area of 1.50 Hectares

Georisk was engaged to support the redevelopment of a former industrial site with a complex history of rail sidings, engineering works, a petrol station, and underground limestone mining. A detailed ground investigation, including trial pits, percussion boreholes, and deep rotary drilling, revealed underground voids and crownhole collapses from past mining activities. Contaminated materials, underground fuel tanks, and hydrocarbon-impacted soils were excavated and removed, while clean blinding layers were placed in landscaped areas. Grid drilling and grouting stabilised weak ground, and tailored foundation solutions were implemented to accommodate the site’s variable conditions, enabling safe residential development.

Portfield Quarry, Chichester - Site Area of 33 Hectares
Georisk was tasked with assessing an operational mineral processing site, previously used for sand and gravel extraction, for mixed residential, industrial, and commercial redevelopment. The site featured varied ground conditions, including deep water lagoons, soft silt infill, and waste backfill. A geoenvironmental assessment, including a detailed desk study and Phase II intrusive investigation with boreholes and window sampling, was conducted to evaluate contamination risks and recommend zonal foundation solutions. Remediation and foundation designs were tailored to site conditions, and Georisk’s findings helped estimate abnormal development costs, facilitating the site’s sale.
